Where there is no vision, the people perish... — Proverbs 29:18
The Bible frequently speaks to us of vision. We read of the visions or dreams of Joseph, of Old Testament prophets and of John, the writer of the book of Revelation. But we, as ordinary believers, can have vision, too. We can have visions of the future of our own lives, of our nation, of our community, and even visions of the future of our own local Church. Whether these visions are just daydreams or hallucinations, or whether they may one day become reality depends on how strongly we believe in them and how hard we are willing to work to achieve them.
What vision do you have for the future of Orangethorpe United Methodist Church? Do you envision it as declining in membership as the present members age and die or move away? Is your dream a nightmare of decrepit, unmaintained and vandalized facilities? Does your vision include our once beautiful sanctuary and other buildings being closed down, sold to a developer and then levelled for office buildings or apartments?
Or do you envision new people visiting OUMC, finding their spiritual home here, becoming members, then telling their friends about our Church? More children coming to Sunday School each week and telling THEIR friends? Or dozens of people who live up and down Orangethorpe and Gilbert considering this building the center of their community and walking to Church so folks who have to drive from a little farther away can find spaces in our parking lot? Can you envision our campus having several different activities going on at all times each day of the week from morning till evening as our Church becomes like a beacon on a hilltop lighting the way for children, youth, young adults and senior citizens?
The time is almost here when we will begin making our visions and dreams a reality. Watch for more news in your Churchfamily Scribe!
You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hid. Nor do men light a lamp and put it under a bushel, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. — Matthew 5:14-16
After this I will pour out my spirit on all mankind. Your sons and daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, and your young men see visions. — Joel 2:28
