WHY DO I GO TO CHURCH?

During the week, I become as a dried up sponge. The cares of everyday living drain me. My church means a place to go and get rejuvenated, to soak up the Lord's word, to drink from the fountain of life, to gain strength for the next week. (Matt. 11:28 "Come unto Me, all who are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest.")

Here I bring my innermost thanks to God for his blessings and treasures that He has bestowed on me. I come to be reassured and encouraged by God's word. It is a place where I can lift my voice in praise to God; a place to be reassured that God loves me and that whatever mistakes I have made during the week, or my life, they will be forgiven. (1 John 1:9 "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us for our sins and to cleanse us for all unrighteousness.")

I am a "Taker" — I take from Church to my home and workplace the wonderful promise that God lives and so shall I. (John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.") I take the word I receive in Church to share and minister to the people I encounter. I try to share this love the church abounds in by being gentle, kind, patient and understanding. By sharing my abundance with those less fortunate (James 2:26 "For just as the body without the Spirit is dead, so also Faith without works is dead.")

Because God has put love into the heart of the church, I know that in a time of physical need or mental anguish it will minister to me. (1 John 4:7 "Beloved let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.") Touching other lives by reflecting God's love is my life's desire. (1 John 4:10 "We love because He first loved us.")

Most of all my church means a quiet place to receive communion and communicate with God in prayer. (John 11:13 "And whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.") Church is a special place where I meet with God on Sunday. (Matthew 18:20 "For where two or three have gathered together in my name there I am in their midst.") At church I am able to mingle and fellowship with other people who have claimed Jesus Christ for their Savior. That's why Sunday is my favorite day of the week.
