"Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain." 1 Corinthians 15-58
Some work is pleasant and some work we would just as soon left undone. We are always rewarded for the work we do. Sometimes it is a paycheck, a clean house, a mowed lawn, windows that sparkle, fresh clean laundry, going to the store for groceries so we have something to eat. The list never ends. But we always feel good after the work is done.
The most rewarding work you can do is work that God wants you to do. 1 Corinthians 3:8-15 says "For we are God's fellow workers, you are God's field, God's building." 1 Thessalonians 1-3 says: "We continually remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ."
God wants us to bring His word to those we meet. To tell of his love for them and how Jesus died on the cross to save us from our sins and give us eternal life. God wants us to work hard to follow the Ten Commandments, and to live by the teachings of Jesus. Psalm 90:17 says "And let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us, and establish the work of our hands for us; Yes, establish the work of our hands."
My Grandmother and a church group of women met every Thursday to make quilts for the needy. I still have the one she was working on when she went to be with the Lord at the age of 89. They met for fellowship and served the Lord by quilting just like some do in church now. It is a New Year and one resolution we can make and enjoy keeping is to work by serving God. Ephesians 2:8-10 says "For by grace you have been saved through faith and not of yourselves; it is the gift of God not of works, lest anyone should boast. For we are His workmanship created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them."
We each have individual talents that we can use to do God's work. You know yours, I know mine. So let this be a year that we use our God given talents to do His work. If you turn to Revelations 22:12 you can read the final promise of Jesus. "Behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me. To give to every one according to his work"
You can't recycle time, so don't waste a minute not doing God's Work. A life driven by good works is rewarding and a blessing to the one who gives and the one who receives. We are never too young or too old to do God's work. There is always an opening and the pay is given in Blessings not money which is useless where we are going someday. What you leave behind is not what is engraved in a stone monument, but what is woven in the heart of others. May God abundantly bless you.
