The Founders of this nation came from Europe to be able to express their religious beliefs freely... Religious liberty. They risked their lives to come to the new world so they could live under the rule of God. Although certainly diverse in their interpretation of Scripture, Scripture was the context of their world view.
Our founding Mothers and Fathers were not seeking freedom FROM Religion, but Freedom to EXPRESS Religion. They did not want those governing them telling them what to believe. They wanted a Government derived from what THEY believed. They had been abused by Kings, and found in the Bible that God never intended for his people to have human kings. God would be King and would rule them if they sought His Word... His way. God will Bless America, if America Blesses God.
Then all the elders of Israel gathered together and came to Samuel at Ramah; and they said to him, "Behold, you have grown old, and your sons do not walk in your ways. Now appoint a king for us to judge us like all the nations."
But the thing was displeasing in the sight of Samuel when they said, "Give us a king to judge us." And Samuel prayed to the LORD. And the LORD said to Samuel, "Listen to the voice of the people in regard to all that they say to you, for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected Me from being king over them." – 1 Samuel 8:4-7
How did they reject God's rule? They rejected his Word. So our founding Fathers believed that the way to keep God as King of our nation was to have a government that derives its legitimate power from the voice of the people... An agreement of the governed of what GOD'S WORD says about what the Creator wanted for them.
Verse 7: Listen to voice of the people: God told Samuel to fulfill the people's request. This was not because their request was good or right, but because God would teach Israel through this. Sometimes when we insist on having something bad God will allow us to have it and then teach through it. God planned for Israel to have a king but He would be King through his only begotten son. Because Israel demanded a king out of bad and carnal reasons, God will give them a bad and carnal king. Israel will get what they want, and will hurt because of it!
They have not rejected you, but they have rejected Me, that I should not reign over them: God had a purpose in not giving Israel a king up to that point. It was because He did not want them to put an ungodly trust in the king instead of the LORD. Now, Israel rejects God's plan and declares they do not want the LORD God to reign over them.
They have forsaken Me . . . so they are doing to you also: In fact, Israel forsook God by asking for a king. When the elders of Israel asked for a king, they thought that politics or bigger government could meet their needs. But if they had just been faithful to their King in heaven, they would not need a king on earth.
When Jesus stood before Pilate the Jewish mob declared, we have no king but Caesar (John 19:15). Jesus was a rejected King.
PROLOG TO THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed...
Because this is consistent with the CREATOR as described in The Bible. This Declaration makes no sense that these rights come through evolutionary chance; They are endowed by the Creator. These rights are in the design of the Universe. Without this fact our national concept of Government will not work. It is not so much about asking God to Bless America. But for us to Bless God.
Certainly our Founders had different opinions about details of the Bible but they believed that an understanding of life and government was to be derived from the Bible — The Word of God. Individuals should not be given rights by a king or other form of government; the power of the government must be justly derived from the consent of the governed.
Rights would no longer be given to the people by the government; the government would be given limited rights from the people. America would be a land of freedom and opportunity, with minimal government intrusion, a limited central government that would simply protect the people and maintain a safe environment for them to pursue happiness in anyway they saw fit.
Israel experienced calamity as a result of not seeking God as ruler. In 586 BC, Jerusalem fell and 150 years later God allowed them to return... When they returned to the land they returned to the Scriptures, they wanted God's Blessing:
However, You (GOD) are just in all that has come upon us; for You have dealt faithfully, but we have acted wickedly. For our kings, our leaders, our priests, and our fathers have not kept YOUR LAW or paid attention to YOUR COMMANDMENTS and YOUR ADMONITIONS with which You have admonished them. — Nehemiah 9:33-34
Our Bill of Rights is a collection of amendments to the Constitution that actually set clear limits on what the Federal Government is allowed to do. It is more a bill of limitations on government then a bill of rights for citizens.
The right to bear arms was given to keep the government in check. The design is to keep a balance of power with the Government and the governed.
We want a King so we can be like all the nations: This was never God's goal for Israel. God said he wanted to make them a special treasure.
Now then, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be My own possession among all the peoples, for all the earth is Mine; and you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. — Exodus 19:5-6
Gettysburg Address: we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom and that government of the people, by the people, for the people shall not perish from the earth.
Colleges and universities:
Founding Fathers believed the reason for the horrible Crusades was because the Christians lacked knowledge of the Bible.
Noah Webster is noted among liberal and conservative scholars alike as the "Father of American Scholarship and Education." For well over a century, his Dictionary of the English Language was used almost exclusively to train young minds. It is no coincidence nearly every entry in that masterpiece of a dictionary uses Scripture references to illustrate the meanings of words.
1607, the voyagers on the Susan Constant, the Discovery, and the Godspeed, gathered together in prayer at Cape Henry to set a wooden cross in the sands of the beach in Virginia, and dedicate the new civilization to the will and purposes of God.
America's biblical foundation would be affirmed and reaffirmed over and over again by its forefathers, from the Pilgrims of the Mayflower, to the Puritans of Massachusetts Bay, to the leaders of the first American colonies who declared publicly and in writing that the new Commonwealth had come into existence solely for the glory and purposes of God.
No historian can rewrite that. No president can expunge that. American civilization was conceived, established, dedicated, and founded on a biblical cornerstone—America was brought into existence for the will and purpose of God.

George Washington's first inaugural address said: If America should ever turn away from God and His ways, if it should ever disregard His eternal rules of Order and Right, then His blessings, the smiles of Heaven, would be removed from the land.
We have become a nation at war against its own foundation. The Supreme Court still opens its sessions with the words: "God save the United States and this Honorable Court."
We are here to declare that our FREEDOM is derived from Blessing God. The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. The God who allowed the inscription on the cross to say, "This is Jesus... King of the Jews' in 3 languages (Matthew 27:37). Jesus is the God of all nations. He alone is the Rock upon which this nation has come to exist. Colossians 1:16 For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created by Him and for Him.
Technically, all nations ARE under God whether we acknowledge it or not.
Self-government won't work without self-discipline. Self-government without self-discipline falls apart. When Yugoslavia, Bosnia, Albania, Bulgaria, Hungary and Lithuania finally got freedom from oppression, within a decade they reverted to caretaker communist governments.
Well, self-government won't work here either without self-discipline. Self-government requires self-discipline all the way to top, and all the way down to us. — Then we may lead the world as we once did. For our nation's first 150 years we led the world, not with guns, not with butter, not with money, but by example. The French threw off the yoke of their dissolute aristocracy. England initiated sweeping democratic reforms. Mexico, Central America, South America freed themselves from Spain just watching our example.
My Prayer is not "God Bless America", but "America Let's Bless God".
