"No King but Jesus"

When our nation was being birthed, our Forefathers established a unique government. People groups and tribes were governed by Kings and rulers whose power was derived by force. The people who risked their lives to come to this "new world" did so to escape the tyranny of kings determining everything in their lives, included religion. There was a passion to worship God freely, in the hearts of our founders.

They were steeped in the Bible. They knew the story of Israel and the problems they had when they rejected God as their ruler, their King.

Let's go to our opening passage:

1 Samuel 8: 4-7 Then all the elders of Israel gathered together and came to Samuel at Ramah; 5 and they said to him, "Behold, you have grown old, and your sons do not walk in your ways. Now appoint a king for us to judge us like all the nations." 6 But the thing was displeasing in the sight of Samuel when they said, "Give us a king to judge us." And Samuel prayed to the LORD. 7 And the LORD said to Samuel, "Listen to the voice of the people in regard to all that they say to you, for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected Me from being king over them.

For the first thousand years of Israel's history they had no human king because God himself was their king, and he was a perfectly faithful king. He established a system of Judges who were not kings. They had a relationship with God that was personal and real and they governed without power or prestige. When the people asked Sam for a King, he knew it was wrong. God makes clear their request was evil in vs. 7: "They have rejected me from being king over them.

Samuel's role as judge was NOT a dynasty. God raised up judges; He did not create a dynasty of judges, whose sons replace them. If Samuel's sons are corrupt, they can be set aside. But to propose a dynasty is to call for a system in which the king's sons will rule in his place, whether they are wicked or righteous. Power easily leads to corruption. Even the best of Israel's human Kings were corrupt. (Saul, David, Solomon) So when our founders established a government, it was with a balance of powers. The Legislative, Executive and Judicial branches of our government were designed, because the people knew sin would creep in, and each branch would have corrective power to curb corruption!

Legislative branch has power to make the laws, executive branch executes the laws, and the judicial branch interprets the law. The president has power, but he has to go through Congress. As obvious as this may seem to you, it is NOT being taught effectively in our Public School system. Only 9 states require Civics as a HS course. US history focuses on and interprets our nation's failures.

They asked George Washington to be King.

We have to learn how to have God be our King.

Our Father who art in Heaven...

2 Chronicles 7:14 If who are called by My name humble themselves and pray, and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

God told the people of Israel... They were responsible to do what?

  1. humble themselves and
  2. pray, and
  3. seek My face and
  4. turn from their wicked ways... God WILL heal the land!

Who is that Chosen RACE? Us!

Not only of U.S.A. But of U.S. — us... us means me... you... We have to learn how to let Jesus be Lord... King... master... in a real practical way... We need connection with the commander in chief.

In war communication with superiors is crucial...

A government of the people, by the people, for the people.

Do you know what it said on the Sign on Cross... Jesus: King of the Jews

John 19:19 And Pilate wrote an inscription also, and put it on the cross. And it was written, "JESUS THE NAZARENE, THE KING OF THE JEWS." 20... written in Hebrew, Latin, and in Greek. 21 And so the chief priests of the Jews were saying to Pilate, "Do not write, 'The King of the Jews'; but that He said, 'I am King of the Jews.'" 22 Pilate answered, "What I have written I have written."

Orange County School District chambers — Anaheim, Irvine & 16 cities, from San Clemente to Buena Park, have added "In God we trust" to their chambers in recent years. The phrase has been the national motto since 1956 and was reaffirmed in 2011 by Congress, which encouraged officials to include the phrase inside public schools and government buildings.

And on His robe and on His thigh He has a name written, "KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS." — Revelation 19:16

They don't want to be a distinct nation, set apart from the nations around them. They are not simply attempting to fire Samuel as their judge; they are seeking to fire God as their King. God makes this clear in the following verses.

This is a summary of how Dennis Prager, (popular political analyst) explains it.

Most Americans no longer know what America stands for. For them, America has become just another country, a place located between Canada and Mexico. But America was founded to be an idea, not another country.

As Margaret Thatcher put it: "Europe was created by history. America was created by philosophy."

America stands for small government, a free economy (and therefore capitalism), liberty (and it therefore allows for liberty's inevitable consequence, inequality), the "melting pot" ideal, and a God-centered population rooted in Judeo-Christian values (so that a moral society is created by citizens exercising self-control rather than relying on the state to impose controls).

Only America was founded on the idea of limited (& therefore small) government. Some are for big government. America was founded on the principle that human rights come from the Creator.

For some rights come from the state. America was founded on the belief that in order to maintain a small government, a God-fearing people is necessary. There are those that oppose God-based religions, particularly Judeo-Christian religions. Secularism is at the core.

The American Revolution, unlike the French Revolution, placed liberty above equality. For some, equality is more important than all else.

American parents, too, ceased teaching their children American values (beginning with not reading to their children the most popular book in American history, the Bible).

Schools even stopped teaching American history. When American history is taught today, it is taught as a history of oppression, imperialism, and racism. Likewise, there is essentially no civics education, once a staple of the public-school system. Young Americans are not taught either the Constitution or how American government works. I doubt many college students even know what "separation of powers" means, let alone why it is so significant. So, then, thanks to secularism and America's taken-for-granted success, most Americans no longer understand what it means to be an American.

Our system of Government is based on the obvious (self-evident truth) that GOD bestows on all people inherent rights...

"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are CREATED... equal, that they are endowed by their CREATOR with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.

Nehemiah 9:33 "However, You (GOD) are just in all that has come upon us; for You have dealt faithfully, but we have acted wickedly. 34 "For our kings, our leaders, our priests, and our fathers have not kept YOUR LAW or paid attention to YOUR COMMANDMENTS and YOUR ADMONITIONS with which You have admonished them.

Exodus 19:5 Now then, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be My own possession among all the peoples, for all the earth is Mine; 6 and you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation..

George Washington's first inaugural address: If America should ever turn away from God and His ways, if it should ever disregard His eternal rules of Order and Right, then His blessings, the smiles of Heaven, would be removed from the land.

1746 Princeton: Scripture key to education

September 26, 1642 — Harvard's rules and precepts were set up to govern. "Let every Student be plainly instructed, and earnestly pressed to consider well, the main end of his life and studies is, to know God and Jesus Christ which is eternal life, John 17:3 and therefore to lay Christ in the bottom, as the only foundation of all sound knowledge and Learning. And seeing the Lord only giveth wisdom, Let every one seriously set himself by prayer in secret to seek it of him Prov. 2.3." The founders of Harvard believed that "all knowledge without Christ was vain."

The charter of Yale University clearly expressed the purpose for which the school was founded: "Whereas several well disposed and Public Spirited Persons of their sincere regard to & zeal for upholding & propagating of the Christian Protestant Religion ... youth may be instructed in the Arts & Sciences who through the blessing of Almighty God may be fitted for Public employment both in Church & Civil State." In addition to Harvard and Yale, 106 out of the first 108 schools in America were founded on the Christian faith.

Acts 5:8 "We gave you strict orders not to continue teaching in this name, and behold, you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and intend to bring this man's blood upon us." 29 But Peter and the apostles answered and said, "We must obey God rather than men. 30 "The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom you had put to death by hanging Him on a cross.

PRAY FOR OUR NATION: It's always "easier" to worship a Golden Calf than honor the real yet invisible God!
