Reynaldo Guevara was born in El Salvador in 1977; he came to the United States due to a civil war at the age of ten years old. Rey has lived in Southern California since 1987. He received a B.A. in Psychology from La Verne University and a M.Div. from Fuller Theological Seminary. Before coming to Orangethorpe in 2019, Rey served as the senior pastor for Maywood United Methodist Church, a Multi-ethnic ministry that is composed of Pacific Islanders, Latinos, African Americans and Caucasians. Reynaldo has been married to Kellie for twelve years and they have two beautiful daughters ages eight and ten. He enjoys spending time with his family, loves to watch sport, plays golf and cooks.
Rey served at Maywood UMC for the last four years (July 2015-2019). Before Maywood, he served for three years as the senior pastor for Inglewood UMC (July 2012-2015), a ministry composed of African Americans and Pacific Islanders. He also served as the Associate pastor/Youth pastor for Anaheim UMC (from July 2010 to July 2012). From 2008 to 2010, he was an Associate pastor for Montebello UMC, where he served as the pastor for the Hispanic congregation and taught life skills and parent classes.
Rey loves to teach and preach the Bible (bilingual in Spanish and English); he is a people's person and loves to work in a team atmosphere. Some of Rey's gifts and graces are: natural leader because he has the tendency to make people a priority and he is likely to bring people together for the purpose of community and inspiration, he wants everyone to feel welcome and included. He enjoys nurturing, caring and supporting others.
Rey has experience in preaching, teaching Bible study, counseling, visiting, supervising staff, hiring, dismissing employees, property management, conducting ceremonies, coordinating events, overseeing various ministries and communities.
Other ministries he is involved in: Board member for DPAS (West District) and Health and Pensions for the Annual Conference. He has been involved in various youth camps from Urban Kids, Spanglish and Young Adults. He has also been involved with United Methodist Women, teaching Mission U where he will be also teaching this summer at Azusa Pacific.
